A downloadable project for Windows and macOS

Giftscop is a playable replica of Petscop, aiming to recreate the fictional game exactly as it exists in the original story.

We encourage you to view the project more like a replica than a game. Some parts can be boring or frustrating, but we will not change this, because they appear this way in the original videos.

Giftscop was originally created with Unity and released for Windows and macOS. In 2023, we released a small prototype that ran on the original PlayStation. Now, we are working on porting the entire project to the PS1 using a custom engine.

Features:

  • All of the rooms visited in the original series
  • All of the Pets from the original series
  • Input recording system and demos
  • The "P2 to TALK" system used to communicate with other players using a PlayStation controller
  • The "Draw Mode" feature used to edit textures in Petscop 15 (accessible by pressing the buttons corresponding to "Nifty" using P2 to TALK)
  • Near-perfect visual accuracy with the original game
  • Online multiplayer

Some features are not yet supported on the PlayStation version, but will be added in a future update.

In Petscop's community, some thought Petscop was too advanced to run on the PS1. So far, we have overcome all supposed barriers here, including:

  • Dynamic lighting in later portions of the game
  • "Infinite" geometry for the Newmaker Plane
  • Draw Mode with the PS1's limited VRAM
  • Procedural generation of rooms in the Child Library
  • "High-poly" models like the bucket and red tool

The PS1 version is available today, and works on both emulators and actual PS1 hardware.

More information about the project can be found on our website.

This is actually insane

Giftscop is an intriguing and ambitious project that serves as a playable replica of the fictional game Petscop. This endeavor aims to faithfully recreate the original experience as depicted in the series, emphasizing the importance of authenticity over conventional gameplay enjoyment. The developers have made a conscious choice to retain elements that may be perceived as tedious or frustrating, mirroring the original videos' tone and pacing.

Originally developed using Unity, Giftscop was released for Windows and macOS. In a notable expansion of its reach, a prototype version was launched in 2023 for the original PlayStation, showcasing the team's commitment to preserving the essence of the game across different platforms. Currently, efforts are underway to port the entire project to the PS1 using a custom engine, which is a testament to the developers' dedication to overcoming technical challenges.

The game boasts a variety of features that enhance the immersive experience, including:

  • All rooms visited in the original series, ensuring that players can explore familiar environments.
  • All Pets from the original series, allowing for a comprehensive interaction with the game's lore.
  • An input recording system and demos, which provide players with the ability to revisit their gameplay experiences.
  • The innovative "P2 to TALK" system, enabling communication between players using a PlayStation controller, fostering a sense of community.
  • The "Draw Mode" feature, which allows players to edit textures, reminiscent of the mechanics seen in Petscop 15.
  • Near-perfect visual accuracy, ensuring that the aesthetic aligns closely with the original game.
  • Online multiplayer capabilities, which enhance the social aspect of gameplay.

While some features are not yet available in the PlayStation version, the developers have indicated that these will be included in future updates, demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement.

The project has faced skepticism within the Petscop community, with some believing that the original game was too advanced for the PS1. However, the team has successfully addressed various technical barriers, including:

  • Implementing dynamic lighting in later game sections.
  • Creating "infinite" geometry for the Newmaker Plane.
  • Developing Draw Mode functionality despite the PS1's limited VRAM.
  • Utilizing procedural generation for rooms in the Child Library.
  • Incorporating high-poly models, such as the bucket and red tool.

The PS1 version of Giftscop is now available, compatible with both emulators and actual PS1 hardware, making it accessible to a wider audience. For those interested in staying updated on the latest developments, reporting bugs, or engaging with the community, joining the project's Discord and Bluesky channels is highly encouraged. Additional information about Giftscop can be found on the official website, providing a comprehensive resource for fans and newcomers alike.

In summary, Giftscop represents a remarkable fusion of nostalgia and innovation, inviting players to experience a beloved narrative in a new yet familiar format.
